UDA will hold its grassroots elections on June 18 to elect ward, constituency and county officials while the national ones will be picked by members during a National Delegates Congress.

While speaking to a local news outlet, the party’s interim chairman, Johnstone Muthama said that the party was keen on ensuring that Kenyans from all parts of the country had a stake in the party.

“UDA is already a national party and we want to live up to it’s ideals by having Kenyans from all the counties having a stake in it. We want to have representatives from all the counties sitting at the national level,” said Muthama.

Muthama ensured party members that the election process will be open, free and fair.

“We have learned the hard way, the so called parties are nothing short of family business entities which are run the way the owners want. Since parties nowadays receive funding from taxpayers money, they should be managed well and should have mechanism of holding them to account,” Muthama added.

At the top of the hierarchy of the three-months old outfit is the party leader who will have three deputies-in charge of administration, political affairs and programmes and strategy.

There will be a national chairperson who will also have three deputies in charge of operations, political affairs and programmes and strategy.
